YORK, Pa. — Seventeen years after being selected Player of the Year for women's soccer in the Capital Athletic Conference, Sara Weaver is part of the CAC's Silver Anniversary Women's Soccer Team.
Weaver, a 1998 graduate who was inducted into the Goucher College Athletic Hall of Fame in April, is the institution's lone representative on the team, which was unveiled this morning.
The CAC, which accepted Goucher as a member in 1991, is in the early stages of its 25th year of intercollegiate varsity competition, and to recognize the occasion, it plans to announce a Silver Anniversary Team in 19 championship sports over the course of the 2014-15 academic year. Each Silver Anniversary Team will feature 25 former or current standout student-athletes and the process which determined the make-up of the teams was primarily based on season-ending conference awards as voted by the conference's head coaches.
Weaver, a four-year letterwinner, is the all-time leading scorer in the history of Goucher's women's soccer program. During her four seasons (1994-97), she supplied the Gophers with 54 goals and 21 assists for a total of 129 points.
The 54 goals, which at the time she graduated was a CAC record, now ranks third in conference history.
Weaver was a first-team All-CAC selection all four seasons and, in 1997, she was chosen Player of the Year in balloting by the conference's head coaches.
Goucher remained a member of the CAC for 16 years before leaving to join the Landmark Conference in 2007.
