TOWSON, Md. — The honor of hosting Goucher's first home event of 2015-16 goes to the women's soccer team. The Gophers will welcome Bryn Mawr to Beldon Field on Tuesday, with the game set to begin at 7 p.m.
"Even though we've had to deal with a few injuries here and there, I think we had a productive preseason and are ready to get the season started and play a game that really counts," said Tati Korba, who is beginning her second decade as head women's soccer coach at Goucher. "It's important we use the Bryn Mawr game and our other non-conference contests to get better in all areas by the time we play our first Landmark Conference game (against Moravian) on September 26."
The Gophers are 4-5-1 in season-opening contests during Korba's first 10 years as their head coach. Although they are 4-8 all-time against Bryn Mawr, they've won the last three head-to-head encounters with the Owls, including a 2-0 triumph a year ago that boosted their record to 2-0-1 three games into the season.
Tuesday night's contest will be the first of nine the Gophers are scheduled to play at home in 2015. They'll open a three-game homestand on September 16 against Albright.
An even longer homestand — one that lasts four games — gets under way on September 29 when the Gophers take on in-state rival McDaniel.
