Gophers Drop to Regionally Ranked Scranton
SCRANTON, Pa. – This was a game that had to do with winning balls in the air, and Goucher could not come away with a result today.
The Scranton Royals got on the board early with three set piece goals, two coming from corners and one from a direct kick on the edge of the 18-yard-box. The corner kicks found a Scranton head both times and the direct kick slipped right past senior goalkeeper Lexi Rudolph (Kensington, M.D.). Goucher was outshot in the first half 14-1, heading into half time trailing 4-0.
The second half was a different story. Freshman goalkeeper Tori Svec (Dummerston, V.T.)stepped up bigtime in goal. Both second half goals from Scranton were well struck and perfectly found the back of the net. The Goucher defense managed to hold the Royals to only 6 shots, while the Goucher offense found it easier to get in toward goal. The Gophers added 6 shots on goal including a rocket by senior defender Lexi Solazzo (Tolland, C.T.) that skimmed the crossbar.
The Gophers have two games left. You can catch them at home on Wednesday at 7:00 PM against the Moravian Greyhounds.
