Gophers Dominate on Senior Day
BALTIMORE, MD. - On a day on which it honored its six seniors – Stephanie Budrock (Clark, NJ), Brooke Merchant (Gaithersburg, MD), Anja Opsahl (Silver Spring, MD),  Lexi Rudolph (Kensington, MD), Lexi Solazzo (Tolland, CT) and Samantha Turner (Tolland, CT) - Goucher earned a 3-1 victory over the visiting Drew University Rangers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:  The Gophers struck first, at 3 minutes and 12 seconds into the game on a goal by sophomore forward Camryn Mackey (Washington DC), off an assist from junior midfielder Sara Kast (Fresno, CA) to take an early 1-0 lead.  Drew countered to tie the score at 1-1 with 13:34 remaining in the first half. That remained the score at the half. The second half was all Goucher as it outshot Drew 12-0 and the Gophers possessed the ball and dominated play.  The Gophers got goals from senior forward Samantha Turner (Vineland, NJ) and sophomore midfielder Christina Yarrish (Hummelstown, PA) to drive them to the 3-1 victory.  Mackey, who had an exceptional day,  picked up an assist on both of the second half goals.  Freshman Isabel Suazo (Brooklyn, NY) also was credited with an assist on Yarrish's goal.

INSIDE THE BOX: Goucher outshot Drew 18-5.  The Gopher defense held Drew to 0 shots in the second half while the offense produced 12. The Gophers took 7 corner kicks to Drew's 1.

BETWEEN THE POSTS: Senior Lexi Rudolph (Kensington, MD) saw very little action as Drew only put 3 of their 5 shots on frame. Rudolph finished the day with 2 saves.

IT'S A WRAP: The Gophers finish their 2016 season on a winning note with an overall record of 7-9-1, and finish 2-5 in the Landmark Conference.  This victory leaves the Gophers in 6th place and puts the Rangers in 7th.
