Women's Soccer Falls at Home to Widener, 2-0

TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College women's soccer team fell to visiting Widener on Wednesday night at Beldon Field, 2-0, in the Gophers' final match before beginning Landmark Conference play this weekend.

With the defeat, Goucher fell to 2-3-1 on the year, while Widener improved to 2-2-1 on the season with the win.

In the opening frame of the contest, Widener attacked relentlessly, eventually outshooting the Gophers, 10-2, in the first 45 minutes of action. Because of that, the Pride scored goals in both the 21st and 25th minute to go up by two scores on the Gophers entering intermission.

The second half saw Goucher not concede a score, as sophomore goalie Christina Charikofsky (Eldersburg, Md.) kept Widener off the board after making seven saves in the final 45 minutes. Unfortunately, Goucher could not score in the period, ending the match with a two-goal defeat.

Overall, Widener outshot Goucher, 19-6, in the contest, and held an 8-0 edge on corner kicks.

The Gophers will look to bounce back on Saturday, as they host Drew in the Landmark Conference season opener for both teams at Beldon Field. Action gets underway at 4 p.m.
