TOWSON, Md. The Goucher College women's soccer team scored five goals in the first 45 minutes of play, coasting to a 5-1 win over visiting Notre Dame (Md.) Tuesday evening at Beldon Field in non-conference action.
With the win, the Gophers snapped a three-match losing streak, improving to 5-7-3 overall. Notre Dame dropped to 5-9 overall with the defeat.
In the win, senior Camryn Mackey (Washington, D.C.) got the Goucher scoring barrage kicked off early, as she scored goals in the first and 17th minutes to give the Gophers an early 2-0 lead. Both of Mackey's goals, which increased her goal total on the year to three, were unassisted.
Scoring Goucher's next two goals was fellow senior Christina Yarrish (Hummelstown, Pa.), who connected on scoring attempts in the 33rd and 36th minutes to put the Gophers up, 4-0. Another senior, Sara Naughton (Simsbury, Conn.), was credited with assists on both of Yarrish's goals, as she has now scored eight goals throughout the 2018 season.
The final goal of the period was tallied by sophomore Kendall Belmont (Portland, Ore.) with 48 seconds left in the half, as she scored her second goal of the 2018 season off an assist from first-year Carsen Delmont (Hampstead, Md.) to give Goucher a 5-0 lead into intermission.
From there, it was academic for the Gophers, as they finished off their last non-conference game of the 2018 season with a dominating four-score win.
Overall, Goucher outshot Notre Dame by a wide 29-9 margin, while posting a 7-2 edge on corner kicks, as well.
