BALTIMORE, MD - The Goucher College Women's Soccer team (0-1-0) opened the season on Beldon Field facing the Green Terror of McDaniel College (1-0-0).
The offense for McDaniel came to life quickly, with sophomore goalkeeper, Nia George, notching a save just two minutes into the contest. The Green Terror notched their first goal of the contest 9:16 into the game.
The defense remained strong for the Gophers, holding off McDaniel until the final two minutes of the half, when they found the back of the net to go up 2-0 at the whistle.
Becca Maddox opened the half with a shot wide of the goal in attempts to get the Gophers on the scoreboard.
Two goals just over 10 minutes apart put the Green Terror up 4-0 in the opener. After that final goal off a corner, the Gophers prevented McDaniel from finding the back of the net.
McDaniel outshot Goucher 33-2, with George collecting nine saves. McDaniel also saw more opportunities for the attack with seven corner kicks, compared to Goucher's one. The Gophers are back in action on Sunday, August 31st where they travel to Marywood for a 4pm kick off.
