BALTIMORE, MD - The Goucher College Gophers (0-3-0) hosted the Marymount (2-0-0) in their faculty/staff appreciation game Wednesday evening. Despite the low-scoring first, the Gophers fell 5-0 to the Saints.
The Gophers came out strong with an early shot from Ashley Schwartz just over two minutes into the contest. However, Marymount rallied back with a goal at the 6:36 mark, to go up 1-0.
The first half was quiet outside of one goal, despite the six shots on net from the Saints.
The Saints opened up the second half in similar fashion to the first, with an early goal to add to their lead. The third goal for the Saints came just ten minutes later, at the 64 minute mark. The two final goals were scored within the five minutes following.
Three Gophers, Shwartz, Becca Maddox and Natalie Voorhees each led the team with one shot each. Sophomore goalkeeper, Nia George, racked up five saves in her 90 minutes in net, this broke down to three saves in the first half and two in the second.
Goucher was outshot 22-3 in the contest, and recorded more saves. Marymount had seven corner kicks to the Gophers zero.
The Gophers return to action at Notre Dame (Md.) on Saturday, September 6th at noon.
