BALTIMORE, MD – The Goucher College women's soccer team (1-10 overall; 0-2 conference) hosted the University of Scranton (7-2-2 overall; 2-0 conference) as a part of Blue & Gold weekend. The Royals overpowered the Gophers, 6-0, to remain undefeated in conference play.
Scranton put Goucher on the defensive early, with sophomore goalkeeper Nia George making her first save just two and a half minutes into the contest. After sustained pressure, the Royals broke through in the 26th minute, then doubled their lead just 52 seconds later. Following the second goal, Goucher steadied defensively, to hold the scoreline for the remainder of the half.
In the second half, Scranton extended their advantage by capitalizing on a rebound in the 47th minute, before adding two more goals by the 63rd. Madison Ybarra provided Goucher's lone offensive attempt in the 80th minute, but the Royals closed out the match with their sixth goal late.
Scranton finished with a 38-1 edge in shots and an 18-0 advantage in corner kicks. George recorded 14 saves in net for the Gophers, while Scranton's three goalkeepers were untested.
The Gophers are back in action on Tuesday, October 7th traveling to Catholic for a 7pm kickoff. The team returns home to host their Mental Health Awareness Game on October 11th at 1pm.
