BETHLEHEM, PA - The Goucher College Gophers (1-15 overall; 0-7 conference) traveled to face the Greyhounds of Moravian University (3-10 overall; 2-4-1 conference). Despite a hard-fought effort, the Gophers were unable to overcome the Greyhounds in the 3-1 contest.
Moravian kicked off the game quickly, taking two shots less than a minute a part, before Goucher answered with back-to-back attempts from Jordan Wood around the four minute mark. The teams traded possessions through the early stages until the Gophers broke through, Becca Maddox found the back of the net off a pass from Madison Ybarra with 21:34 on the clock. The advantage was short-lived, however, as Moravian equalized seven minutes later, and then doubled their lead three minutes after to take the 2-1 edge into halftime. Maddox recorded one final shot to close the half.
Off the kickoff for the second half, Moravian extended their lead with a third goal, the final of the contest. From there, the Gophers' defense tightened up, stopping three consecutive shots to hold the Greyhounds at bay. On the offensive end, Abby Lee's shot forced the Greyhounds goalkeeper to make a save in the 58th minute, while Wood and Jasmine Haskell each added late attempts, though the Gophers could not find another breakthrough.
The Greyhounds outshot the Gophers 19-10, and held a slight edge on corners (7-4). Nia George played the full 90 minutes and collected five saves. Wood led the Gophers in four shot attempts, while Maddox led with two shots on goal.
The women's team rounds out the season at home, celebrating their seniors on Saturday, October 25th at 1pm against Elizabethtown. The final game of the season will be on Tuesday, October 28th at 7pm, where they will host their Breast Cancer Awareness game against Susquehanna.
