BALTIMORE, MD - The Goucher College women's soccer team (1-16 overall; 0-8 conference) hosted the Blue Jays of Elizabethtown College (6-5-5 overall; 4-3-1 conference) for their senior game on Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Jays struck early, recording their first shot less than two minutes into the contest. After sustained offensive pressure, Elizabethtown capitalized on a corner kick in the 18th minute to open the scoring, and later doubled the lead in the 36th minute.
Just over 30 seconds into the second half, the Blue Jays added a third goal to extend the advantage. The Gophers began to find momentum offensively, with Madison Ybarra and Katelyn Conrad both recording shots. The teams traded chances until Elizabethtown netted their final goal in the 80th minute. Seniors, Jordan Wood and Becca Maddox recorded the final shots of the match for the Gophers.
The Blue Jays outshot the Gophers 24-5, and held the edge on corner kicks (7-0). Sophomore, Nia George, earned seven saves in the full 90 minutes. Five separate Gophers recorded a shot in the contest, while Maddox had the only shot on goal.
The Gophers final game of the regular season will be at home on Tuesday, October 28th against Susquehanna for the team's Breast Cancer Awareness Game.
