BALTIMORE, Md. - Goucher produced the top performers in the 160-yard relay and the first 10 individual events in tonight's meet against Notre Dame (Md.), and the 57 points the Gophers (3-3) earned from those first-place performances propelled them to a 75-46 victory over the Gators.
Noura Hemady (Timonium, MD/Carver Center) and Sam Sutherland (North Reading, MA/Austin Prep) both touched first in a pair of individual events. For Hemady, it was the two backstroke events as she posted winning times of 1:11.10 in the 100 back and 2:37.38 in the 200 back; for Sutherland, it was the 1000 freestyle (12:00.53) and 200 breaststroke (2:49.22).
Lindsey Phillipson-Weiner (Merion, PA/Lower Merion) took first place in the 200 free, completing the event in 2:17.69. Goucher's other first-place performances came from Sarah Keifer (Skillman, NJ/Montgomery) in the 100 breaststoke (1:23.28), Bethany Natoli (Alexandria, VA/O'Connell) in the 200 butterly (2:34.60), Alex Deffaa (Glen Rock, NJ/Oakwood Friends School) in the 400 free (:22.81), Candace Crasto (Tallahassee, FL/Urbana) in the 100 free (:58.56) and Britt Hogstrom (Killington, VT/Woodstock Union) in the 500 free (5:42.75).
In five of the 10 individual events that Goucher captured first place, the Gophers also produced the runner-up. Pilar Gimenez (Phoenix, MD/McDonogh School) placed second behind Hemady in the 100 back (1:18.47) and second behind Deffaa in the 40 free (:24.03). The remaining 1-2 finishes for Goucher were by Sutherland and Crasto (12:14.15) in the 1000 free, Natoli and Judith Stern (Reisterstown, MD/Grier School) (2:45.44) in the 200 butterfly, and Crasto and Pamela Sobeck (Allendale, NJ/Northern Highlands Regional) (1:03.16) in the 100 free.
Goucher's victorious 160 medley relay was made up of Gimenez, Phillipson-Weiner, Sara Reznick (Pittsburgh, PA/Taylor Allderdice) and Hogstrom and the winning time in the event was 1:35.35.
