YORK, Pa. - Goucher's Britt Hogstrom (Killington, VT/Woodstock Union), who holds the school record in the 50-yard freestyle, placed first in that event today at a triangular meet which involved Salisbury and York.
The Gophers (3-5) lost to both the Sea Gulls, 112-91, and the Spartans, 114-92.
Hogstrom's winning time in the 50 free today was :25.89, which is only 2-tenths of a second behind the school record of :25.69, which she recorded at the 2007 Capital Athletic Conference Championships.
Sam Sutherland (North Reading, MA/Austin Prep) also touched first in an individual event. She won the 100 freestyle in a time of :57.71.
Both Hogstrom and Sutherland, along with Bethany Natoli (Alexandria, VA/O'Connell) and Alex Deffaa (Glen Rock, NJ/Oakwood Friends School), were part of Goucher's victorious 200 medley relay (1:56.50).
Natoli was runner-up in two events: the 200 butterfly (2:31.74) and 200 backstroke (2:23.22). Other second-place performances for the Gophers came from Sarah Keifer (Skillman, NJ/Montgomery) in the 1000 free (11:31.23) and Sutherland in the 200 free (2:06.12).
