Hogstrom Becomes Three-Time Champion in 100 Free
KINGS POINT, N.Y. Goucher's Britt Hogstrom (Killington, Vt./Woodstock Union) became a three-time champion in the 100-yard freestyle when she placed first in that event today at the 2010 Landmark Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Championships.
Senior Concludes Illustrious Career with Seven Landmark Titles
SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Goucher's Britt Hogstrom
(Killington, Vt./Woodstock Union) became a three-time
champion in the 100-yard freestyle when she placed first in that
event today at the 2010 Landmark Conference Women's Swimming &
Diving Championships.
Hogstrom set new school and conference records with her winning
time of :53.45.
The senior also made an attempt Friday to win her third straight
title in the 50 free only to place third, but she successfully
defended her crown and broke both the school and conference records
in the 200 free on Saturday. She completed the 50 in :24.85 and the
100 in :53.45.
During her four seasons with the Gophers, Hogstrom placed first in
an individual event at the conference meet a total of seven
times.
In Lindsey Phillipson-Weiner (Merion, Pa./Lower
Merion), Goucher had a second swimmer reach the
championship finals in three individual events at this year's
three-day meet. The junior was runner-up in the 500 free on Friday,
placed third in the 400 individual medley (5:01.88) on Saturday and
recorded another third-place performance today, this time in the
1650 free (18:47.76). Her time of 5:21.45 in the 500 breaks a
school record that had stood since 1995.
Between them, Hogstrom and Phillipson-Weiner earned a total of 81 points toward Goucher's team total with their performances in the six individual events in which they were entered. The Gophers finished with a team score of 212 points, good for fourth place. Scranton pulled away on the final day of competition to amass 567 points and capture its third straight Landmark championship. Susquehanna was second with 474 points followed by Catholic (333.50 points) in third.
Merchant Marine was close on Goucher's heels, winding up in fifth place with 198.50 points. Drew (133 points) and Juniata (55) were sixth and seventh, respectively.
Victoria Adinolfi (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) made it into one championship final and one consolation final for Goucher. She placed sixth in the 200 butterfly (2:30.94) and 10th in the 100 butterfly (1:05.21). Mara Baron (Wayzata, Minn./Breck School) also secured points for the Gophers in those two events by coming in 10th in the 200 (2:32.47) and 12th in the 100 (1:07.26).
Emily Hasse (Montvale, N.J./Pascack Hills) placed 10th in the 400 IM (5:24.45) and Abbey Wegman (Knoxville, Tenn./Berean Christian) was 11th in the 200 backstroke (2:30.29).
Four of Goucher's five relays placed fourth or higher. In the 400 freestyle relay, the quartet of Phillipson-Weiner, Adinolfi, Wegman and Hogstrom took third place with a time of 3:50.28; in the 800 free relay, the same four swimmers combined to complete their task in 8:22.17, also good for third place.
