Gophers Never Surrender Lead, Knock Off Gators
BALTIMORE, Md. Victoria Adinolfi (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) helped Goucher maintain a lead over Notre Dame (Md.) this evening with the five points she earned for placing first in the 100-yard freestyle and the three points she picked up as runner-up in the 40-yard freestyle.
Adinolfi Earns 13 Points in Three Individual Events for Goucher
BALTIMORE, Md. — Victoria Adinolfi (Eden Prairie,
Minn./Eden Prairie) helped Goucher maintain a lead over
Notre Dame (Md.) this evening with the five points she earned for
placing first in the 100-yard freestyle and the three points she
picked up as runner-up in the 40-yard freestyle.
But it was the five points the sophomore picked up for a first-place performance in the 100 breaststroke that created a situation where the Gophers could not be caught and they went on to defeat the Gators, 57-37.
Adinolfi's winning times were 1:01.47 in the 100 free and 1:20.59 in the 100 breast. She completed the 40 free in :22.12.
The Gophers (4-4) produced the top entries in both of the relay events, good for a total of 14 points. In the 160 medley relay, Abbey Wegman (Knoxville, Tenn./Berean Christian), Mara Baron (Wayzata, Minn./Breck School), Lindsey Phillipson-Weiner (Merion, Pa./Lower Merion) and Rachel Leavitt-Baron (Seattle, Wash./Seattle Academy) took first place with a combined time of 1:42.44; in the 160 free relay, the quartet of Britt Hogstrom (Killington, Vt./Woodstock Union), Rachel Lyon (Fallston, Md./The John Carroll School), Hillary Fabrico (Bloomington, N.Y./Poughkeepsie Day School) and Baron were clocked at 1:32.97.
Like Adinolfi, Hogstrom placed first in a pair of individual events: the 500 free (5:37.97) and 1000 free (11:28.78). Phillipson-Weiner and Emily Hasse (Montvale, N.J./Pascack Hills) provided Goucher with a 1-2 finish in the 100 backstroke, with Phillipson-Weiner winning the event with her time of 1:06.25.
