Cardinals Never Trail in 170-87 Victory Over Gophers
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Junior Sarah Eastland (Sebastopol, Calif./Analy) earned 27 points for Goucher with first-place performances in three individual events, but the Gophers still suffered a 170-87 setback to Catholic in a Landmark Conference meet this afternoon.
Eastland Touches First in Two Freestyle Events, 100 Butterfly
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Junior Sarah Eastland (Sebastopol, Calif./Analy) earned 27 points for Goucher with first-place performances in three individual events, but the Gophers still suffered a 170-87 setback to Catholic in a Landmark Conference meet this afternoon.
The events in which Eastland touched first were the 50-yard freestyle, which she completed in :27.59, the 100-yard butterfly, where she was clocked at 1:08.93, and the 200-yard freestyle, where her winning time was 2:11.57.
The only other event in which the Gophers (0-2, 0-2 Landmark) took first place was the 200-yard backstroke where senior Lindsey Phillipson-Weiner (Merion, Pa./Lower Merion) picked up nine points by finishing 87-hundredths of a second in front of Catholic's Kristen Gunn. Phillipson-Weiner's winning time was 2:26.46.
Goucher swimmers were runners-ups in two events: freshman Ruth Logan (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School) in the 1000 free (12:17.44) and freshman Catherine Gepner (West Allenhurst, N.J./Ocean Township) in the 100 butterfly (1:10.60).
Logan also placed third in the 100 back (1:07.35) and 500 free (5:54.23). Additional third-place finishes by Goucher swimmers were by Gepner in the 200 butterfly (2:39.49), freshman Sarah Pardus (Stratham, N.H./Exeter) in the 100 breaststroke (1:20.77) and 200 individual medley (2:33.39) and sophomore Rachel Lyon (Fallston, Md./The John Carroll School) in the 100 free (1:04.42).
The Cardinals (1-1, 1-0 Landmark) never trailed after jumping out to a 15-2 lead after one event. They filled the top three spots in the 200 breast, which was won by Lisa Brooks (2:34.42).
