Goucher Swimmers Finish 1-2 in Four Individual Events

Phillipson-Weiner Touches First in Two Freestyle Events
TOWSON, Md. — Goucher produced either the first-place performer or the runner-up — and, in some cases, both — in every contested individual event in today's meet against Arcadia with the exception of the 200-yard backstroke. The Gophers also picked up their second win of the season, a 105-87 triumph over Arcadia.
Lindsey Phillipson-Weiner (Merion, Pa./Lower Merion) took top honors in a pair of events, recording the fastest times in the 500-yard freestyle (5:56.60) and the 1000 free (12:08.14). The runner-up in the 500 free was Ruth Logan (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School), who completed the event in 5:59.40.
The other three events in which Gocuher swimmers finished 1-2 were the 50 free, 200 butterfly and 200 individual medley. In the 50 free, Sarah Pardus (Stratham, N.H./Exeter) touched ahead of Abbey Wegman (Knoxville, Tenn./Berean Christian); in the 200 butterfly, Victoria Adinolfi (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) took first and Sarah Eastland (Sebastopol, Calif./Analy) was second; and in the 200 IM, Logan placed first and Adinolfi was the runner-up.
The winning times in those three events: :27.41 by Pardus in the 50 free, 2:30.02 by Adinolfi in the 200 butterfly and 2:28.63 in the 200 IM.
Eastland earned nine points for the Gophers (2-5) with her first-place performance in the 200 free (2:10.88) and Rachel Lyon (Fallston, Md./The John Carroll School) picked up four points for placing second in the 100 free (1:03.31).
The meet opened with the Goucher entry of Catherine Gepner (West Allenhurst, N.J./Ocean Township), Pardus, Adinolfi and Wegman taking first place in the 200 medley relay (2:07.10), giving the Gophers an early 11-4 lead over the Knights (1-5).
