Gophers Secure First Win by Turning Back Bison

First-Place Finishes for Craver in 200 Free, 200 Breast
TOWSON, Md. — Behind a pair of first-place performances by freshman Nicole Craver (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove Area) and a win in the 400-yard medley relay, Goucher was able to chalk up its first victory of the 2011-12 season today, a 78-17 triumph over Gallaudet.
The Gophers also suffered a loss during this afternoon's double dual meet in the von Borries Aquatic Center as they bowed to Arcadia, 56-39. To complete the team scoring, the Knights (3-3) bested the Bison (1-6), 84-11.
The meet began successfully for the Gophers (1-6) as their entry of Kellyn Brower (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge), Tierney Doran (Laguna Beach, Calif./Laguna Beach), Victoria Adinolfi (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) and Rachel Lyon (Fallston, Md./The John Carroll School) registered a time of 4:40.52 in the 400 medley relay, good for first place.
Craver touched first in both the 200 freestyle and 200 breaststroke as she completed those events in 2:04.56 and 2:28.70, respectively.
Brower was the runner-up in both the 200 individual medley (2:31.85) and 200 backstroke (2:29.65) and Rachel Leavitt-Baron (Seattle, Wash./Seattle Academy) was the second-place finisher in the 50 free (:29.12) and 100 free (1:04.65). Catherine Gepner (West Allenhurst, N.J./Ocean Twp.) took second place in the 1,000 free with her time of 12:19.83; Adinolfi was runner-up in the 200 butterfly (2:31.01).
Goucher's entry of Adinolfi, Gepner, Lyon and Craver completed the 400 free relay in 4:08.43, good for second place behind a foursome from Arcadia.
