Craver Makes All-Landmark as Runner-Up in 400 IM
SCRANTON, Pa. — Of the 71 points Goucher earned on the second day of the 2014 Landmark Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Championships, 44 were for eighth-place finishes in the 200-yard medley and 800-yard freestyle relays. The remaining 27 came from putting one individual in the championship finals and having two other consolation finalists in the 400-yard individual medley.

The remaining 27 came from putting one individual in the championship finals and having two other consolation finalists in the 400-yard individual medley.
Based on her time of 4:50.22 in this morning's preliminaries, Nicole Craver (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove Area) was seeded third headed into tonight's 400 IM finals. Although she was in fifth place at the conclusion of the backstroke section, she passed three of the swimmers ahead of her during the breaststroke phase and was able to hold on to finish in second place with her time of 4:47.31. The only swimmer Craver couldn't catch was Kelsey Lessard from Susquehanna (4:37.51).
As runner-up in the 400 IM, Craver picked up 17 points for the Gophers and made the All-Landmark Conference second team.
Goucher had two swimmers in the 400 IM consolation finals: Kellyn Brower (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) placed 10th overall with her time of 5:04.64 and Catherine Gepner (West Allenhurst, N.J./Ocean Twp.) was 14th (5:15.83). Through their efforts, the Gophers secured 10 additional points.
The Gophers didn't earn any points in any of the remaining four individual events contest tonight and will head into the final day of the three-day meet still in eighth place, now with 130 points.
Goucher's entry of Brower, Marykate Malone (Gales Ferry, Conn./Ledyard), Gepner and Lizzy Hannifin (Denver, Colo./East) completed the 200 medley relay in 2:02.50; the foursome of Craver, Lillian Eden (Ipswich, Mass./Westover), Malone and Gepner was clocked at 8:40.17 in the 800 free relay.
