FROSTBURG, Md. — Goucher's women's swimming program has won no more than two meets in a season in each of the last three years. After today's quad meet results at Frostburg St., the Gophers are well on their way to surpassing that total in 2014-15.
Goucher posted victories over the host Bobcats (130-71) and Stevenson (131-55) this afternoon, while Hood edged out the Gophers by a 106-93 score in the first scored meets of the season.
Freshman Alexis Regopoulos (Fitchburg, Mass./North Middlesex Regional) led Goucher with first place showings in each of the three individual races she participated in. Regopoulos bested her nearest competitor by nearly 16 seconds in her first event, the 800 freestyle, touching in with a time of 9:54.92. She also registered wins in the 200 free (2:19.96) and 400 free (4:52.67).
Fellow freshman Kyanna Cadwallader (Gainesville, Fla./Gainesville) registered a fourth first-place result for the Gophers. She completed the 100 breaststroke in 1:24.67, out-touching teammate Nicole Craver (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove Area) by 0.26-hundredths of a second.
Along with that showing, Craver also finished second in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:42.08. Goucher had additional individual second place results from Lizzy Hannifin (Denver, Colo./East) in the 50 free (28.88) and Cadwallader in the 100 fly (1:15.00). The Gophers' 200 free relay team of Hannifin, Marykate Malone (Gales Ferry, Conn./Ledyard), Nicole Lynch (Stockholm, Sweden/SSHL) and Sydney Patterson (Dallas, Texas/Woodrow Wilson) placed second as well, five seconds behind Hood's race-winning group.
Goucher placed third in the other relay event, the 200 medley relay, with Kellyn Brower (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge), Malone, Lynch and Rachel Kieffer (Granada Hills, Calif./Reseda) touching in at 2:23.19, just over a second behind Stevenson in second place. Cadwallader (50 free), Craver (100 free) and Hannifin (400 free) added third place finishes on the individual side.
The Gophers return to the next Saturday at St. Mary's (Md.), where the team will face off against the host Seahawks and Marymount in a tri-meet beginning at 1 p.m.
