ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. — Freshman Alexis Regopoulos (Fitchburg, Mass./North Middlesex Regional) continued her outstanding start to the 2014-15 season, claiming victories in both the 500-yard freestyle and the 1000 free for Goucher during today's tri-meet at St. Mary's (Md.).
Regopolous has now won five of the six races she has competed in during the first two scoring meets for the Gophers. She posted a 5:27.28 in the 500 free, besting the rest of the field by 1.68 seconds, and separated herself from her competitors even further in the 1000 free, touching in at 11:09.02 for a 5.35 second margin of victory.
Despite Regopolous' efforts, the Gophers fell to both the host Seahawks (137-58) and Marymount (137-63), dropping the team's overall record to 2-3 this fall.
Lizzy Hannifin (Denver, Colo./East) had the next-highest showing for Goucher, completing the 50 free in 26.47. That time was good enough for second place, just 0.63 seconds behind Elizabeth Straathof from St. Mary's.
Nicole Craver (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove Area) added the final top-three individual result for the Gophers. The senior co-captain timed in at 2:44.33 in the 200 breaststroke, which put her in third place overall.
Goucher will have another tri-meet next weekend when the Gophers face off against Landmark foes Juniata and Scranton in their home opener from the von Borries Aquatic Center. The first race is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
