TOWSON, Md. — Kyanna Cadwallader (Gainesville, Fla./Gainesville) won all three races she competed in, and six other swimmers added first place individual showings to lead Goucher to a 130-108 victory over Notre Dame (Md.) at the von Borries Aquatic Center this evening.
The Gophers (5-4) posted the fastest time in 12 of the 14 contested races, though the Gators were awarded all available points in the final two after Goucher had already sealed the win.
Cadwallader recorded victories in the 50-yard breaststroke (35.34), the 100 freestyle (59.16) and the 50 butterfly (29.84). The freshman was competing in the 50 fly for the first time, but she cruised to a 3.17 win over teammate Marykate Malone (Gales Ferry, Conn./Ledyard) in that event for her largest margin of victory at the meet.
The evening began with Lizzy Hannifin (Denver, Colo./East), Malone, Sydney Patterson (Dallas, Texas/Woodrow Wilson) and Nicole Craver (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove Area) picking up a 2.63-second win for the Gophers in the 200 medley relay. The foursome touched in at 2:07.63.
Nicole Lynch then registered a time of 13:21.00 in the 1000 free, besting her opponent from Notre Dame by over 26 seconds and taking more than 14 seconds off her previous fastest swim at that distance.
Alexis Regopoulos (Fitchburg, Mass./North Middlesex Regional) and Kellyn Brower (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) took home the next pair of first place results for Goucher in the 200 free and 50 backstroke, respectively. Regopoulos finished in 2:06.44, out-touching second place by 2.62 seconds, while Brower (32.32) topped the field by nearly five seconds in her sprint race.
Hannifin (26.00) came within 0.13-hundredths of her personal best while earning a first place showing in the 50 free, while Craver (2:40.65) took first place in the 200 breast. The senior co-captain also had the fastest time in the 200 individual medley at 2:24.14, but the Gophers chose to swim that event as an exhibition.
Rachel Kieffer (Granada Hills, Calif./Reseda) recorded the final individual victory for Goucher, posting a time of 6:23.72 in the 500 free which was well ahead of the 6:49.35 put up by second place finisher Margaret Pedersen from Notre Dame.
The Gophers have now won each of their last two dual meets. They will look to make it three in a row this Saturday when they host Landmark rival Catholic at 1 p.m. to conclude a stretch of four straight home competitions.
