TOWSON, Md. — Despite first-place performances by freshman Alexis Regopoulos (Fitchburg, Mass./North Middlesex Regional) in three individual events, Goucher suffered a 146-114 loss to Catholic in the von Borries Pool this afternoon.
Regopoulos was the first swimmer to touch in both of the distance freestyle events in today's meet as she completed the 500-yard free in 5:31.42 and the 1,000 free in 11:17.14. With the Cardinals (4-2) no longer accepting points for the final two events, she was also declared the winner of the 200 individual medley, where she was clocked at 2:29.65.
The only other first-place finish by a Goucher swimmer in a contested event came from senior Nicole Craver (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove Area) in the 200 breaststroke. Her winning time was 2:40.63.
Sophomore Lizzy Hannifin (Denver, Colo./East) was the runner-up in both the 50 free (:26.31) and 200 free (2:06.89). Craver took second place in the 100 breast (1:16.98); senior Kellyn Brower (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) posted a time of 2:26.24 in the 200 backstroke, good for second place, and she was awarded second place in the 200 IM (2:32.01).
The Gophers (5-5) will compete next weekend at the Yellow Jacket Invitational in Richmond, Va.
