TOWSON, Md. — Goucher resumed its season this afternoon, welcoming Marywood to the von Borries Aquatics Center. In their final home meet of the 2014-15 campaign, the Gophers bowed to the Pacers, 162-98.
Competing for the first time since taking part in the Yellow Jackets Invitational on the first weekend of December, head coach Thomas Till's squad took an early lead in today's meet thanks to a first-place finish in the opening event. A foursome which included Nicole Craver (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove Area), Rachel Kieffer (Granada Hills, Calif./Reseda), Kyanna Cadwallader (Gainesville, Fla./Gainesville) and Lizzy Hannifin (Denver, Colo./East) completed the 400-yard medley relay in 4:39.54, nearly four full seconds ahead of the fastest of the three entries by the Pacers (7-5).
In the 13 events which followed, however, Goucher claimed first place in only four.
Alexis Regopolous (Fitchburg, Mass./North Middlesex Regional) earned 22 points for the Gophers (5-6) in the three individual events in which she competed by touching first in both the 500-yard and 1,000-yard freestyles and second in the 200 free. Her winning times were 5:30.09 in the 500 and 11:30.94 in the 1000; she was clocked at 2:08.64 in the 200.
Craver held off Marywood's Kim Petersen to win the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:24.99. She was runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:16.31) and 200 breast (2:47.22), both times to Petersen.
Hannifin picked up nine points for placing first in the 100 free (:59.45) and another four for finishing second behind Marywood's Cate Anlas in the 50 free. Hannifin posted a time of 26.95 seconds in the shorter of those two events.
Cadwallader was the runner-up in the 100-yard butterfly (1:10.77).
Only one more meet remains on the schedule for the Gophers prior to the Landmark Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Championships, which will take place next month in Boyds, Md. It's a triangular which includes Drew and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy that will take place Jan. 31 in Kings Point, N.Y., starting at 1 p.m.
