Craver Leads Three Goucher Point Scorers in 400 IM

The Gophers' top event was the 400-yard individual medley. Two swimmers, Nicole Craver (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove Area) and Alexis Regopoulos (Fitchburg, Mass./North Middlesex Regional), qualified for the finals, while Kellyn Brower (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) swam in the consolation finals.
Craver, who was runner-up in last year's championship race, took third in the 2015 version with a time of 4:48.15. That was under two seconds faster than Scranton's Kaitlyn Maloney in second place.
Regopoulos, meanwhile, was just under her personal best time set in the preliminaries. She took seventh place at 4:58.65. Brower completed the race in 12th place with a new PR time of 5:08.45. The Goucher threesome earned a total of 33 points in the event.
Two other swimmers earned points in individual events. Lizzy Hannifin (Denver, Colo./East) placed 12th in the 200 freestyle with a new PR result of 2:03.59, earning five points, and Rachel Kieffer (Granada Hills, Calif./Reseda) (1:07.90) set a new PR and earned two points for a 15th place finish in the 100 backstroke.
The Gophers' remaining 22 points came from an eight place showing in the 800 free relay. Regopoulos, Sydney Patterson (Dallas, Texas/Woodrow Wilson), Kieffer and Craver completed the race in 8:37.91.
Goucher currently sits in seventh place overall with 133 points, four ahead of Juniata and five in front of Elizabethtown. There will be 12 more finals contested in the final session tomorrow night from the Germantown Indoor Swim Center.
