FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Goucher's 2006-07 campaign came
to a close today when the Gophers lost to top-seeded Mary
Washington, 9-0, in the semifinals of the Capital Athletic
Conference championship tournament.
The Gophers (8-13) came in having won five of their last six
matches, including an 8-1 triumph over York in the first-round of
the CAC playoffs, but head coach Sally Baum's squad captured only
four games in doubles play and eight in singles play.
All six singles matches started with the Mary Washington player
winning the first set, 6-0. Chloe Scott-Giry (Amagansett,
NY/Ross School) battled Priscialla Jamison of the Eagles
on more even terms in the second set at No. 5, but Jamison still
emerged with a 6-0, 6-4 victory.
The Eagles (20-2), in pursuit of their fourth straight CAC title
and 15th overall, will take on second-seeded Salisbury in the
championship match Saturday. The Sea Gulls defeated Catholic, 8-1,
in today's other semifinal.
