TOWSON, MD — Goucher went 6-0 in singles play for
only the second time all season today in a 9-0 triumph over
Hood.
There were only five contested singles matches as the Blazers
(5-10) forfeited at No. 6. At No. 1, Carly Heinz (Scotch
Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) downed Christine
Ocampos-Barry 6-0, 6-3, and at No. 2, Tanya Cooley
(Arlington, VA/Wakefield) knocked off Larisa Buriak 6-1,
6-2.
Stephanie Austin (Woodbridge, CT/Amity Regional),
Christina Grimm (Greenwich, CT/New Hampton) and
Chloe Scott-Giry (Amagansett, NY/Ross School) were
victorious at third, fourth and fifth singles, respectively, with
each one dropping only one game to her opponent.
The only other time in 2006-07 that head coach Sally Baum's Gophers
(4-11) swept the six singles matches was in the season-opening 9-0
victory over Waynesburg back on Sept. 9.
In the two contested doubles matches, Heinz and Cooley picked up an
8-5 victory over Ocampos-Barry and Buriak at No. 1 and Austin and
Grimm defeated Dani Hunt and Lisa Blickenstaff, 8-1, at No.
2.
