TOWSON, MD — Goucher won five of the six singles
matches on the way to an 8-1 triumph over York today, snapping a
six-match losing streak.
In registering their first victory since downing Neumann, 8-1, back
on Sept. 17, the Gophers (3-8) took a 3-0 lead by sweeping the
three doubles matches. At No. 1, Carly Heinz (Scotch
Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) and Tanya Cooley
(Arlington, VA/Wakefield) turned back Erin Dolac and Kelly
Summers, 8-4.
Heinz polished off Dolac at first singles 6-4, 7-5, and Cooley
prevailed over Summers at No. 2, 6-2, 6-2. Stephanie Austin
(Woodbridge, CT/Amity Regional) of the Gophers was pushed
to a third set at No. 3 singles before completing a 6-2, 3-6, 6-0
victory over Meghan Bedard.
Mouna Attarha (Piedmont, CA/Piedmont) and
Christina Grimm (Greenwich, CT/New Hampton) posted
straight-set wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively, while
the Spartans (4-2) secured their lone point of the match when Megan
Logan downed Chloe Scott-Giry (Amagansett, NY/Ross
School) at No. 6, 7-5, 6-0.
