TOWSON, MD — Goucher closed out the fall portion of
its 2006-07 schedule today, but the Gophers would have preferred to
do it on a more positive note. Instead, they suffered a 9-0 loss to
Elizabehtown.
The Blue Jays (13-1) won all six singles matches in straight sets.
At No. 1, Stacy Shapiro defeated Carly Heinz (Scotch
Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) 6-1, 6-1; at No. 2, Emma
Smith was a 6-0, 6-2 winner over Goucher's Tanya Cooley
(Arlington, VA/Wakefield).
Heinz and Cooley faced Shapiro and Smith at first doubles and were
handed an 8-5 loss.
The Gophers (2-5) will resume their season on March 3 against
Salisbury.
