Gophers Extend Winning Streak to Four MatchesSweep of Doubles Matches Leads to 8-1 Victory Over Eagles

TOWSON, Md. - Goucher extended its winning streak to four matches this afternoon when it earned an 8-1 Landmark Conference victory over Juniata.
After taking a 3-0 lead by sweeping the three doubles matches, head coach Sally Baum's Gophers (8-3, 2-0 Landmark) too five of the six singles matches, including No. 6 by default. Winners for Goucher in contested matches during the singles competition were Carly Heinz (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) at No. 2, Tanya Cooley (Arlington, VA/Wakefield) at No. 3, Mouna Attarha (Piedmont, CA/Piedmont) at No. 4 and Christina Grimm (Greenwich, CT/New Hampton) at No. 5. Heinz defeated Lauren Perow 6-1, 6-1, Cooley knocked off Tierney Miller 6-0, 6-1, Attarha took care of Laura Gregory 6-0, 6-2, and Grimm topped Paula Price 6-1, 6-1.
The Eagles (4-7, 0-2 Landmark) picked up their lone point at first singles where Maggie Wolenter posted a 6-2, 7-5 win over Joan Pulupa (Gaithersburg, MD/Richard Montgomery).
At first doubles, Pulupa and Heinz were 8-6 winners over Amanda Fontana and Wolenter.
