Streak Continues as Gophers Topple SeahawksAttarha Picks Up Team-Leading Ninth Win in Singles Play

TOWSON, Md. - Goucher added to its winning streak and, in the process, halted one by its opponent when the Gophers secured a 7-2 victory over St. Mary's (Md.) today.
On the way to its fifth straight win, the Gophers (9-3) prevailed in five of the six singles matches, each time in straight sets. Mouna Attarha (Piedmont, CA/Piedmont) picked up her team-high ninth singles victory of the season by knocking off Amanda Collins at No. 4, 6-3, 6-0.
Carly Heinz (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood), competing at No. 2 singles for Goucher, defeated Michelle Compton 6-1, 6-1. Other winners in singles play for the Gophers were Tanya Cooley (Arlington, VA/Wakefield) at No. 3, Christina Grimm (Greenwich, CT/New Hampton) at No. 5 and Stella Day (Bellingham, WA/Sehome) at No. 6. Cooley turned back Monica Powell 6-4, 6-2, Grimm topped Erin Marzoli 6-1, 6-3, and Day polished off Colleen O'Neil 6-1, 6-1.
The Seahawks (5-6), who came in riding a three-match winning streak, picked up their only point during singles competition at No. 1 where Sarah Weisse posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Joan Pulupa (Gaithersburg, MD/Richard Montgomery).
Pulupa was part of one of the Gophers' two victories in doubles play as she and Heinz defeated Weisse and Compton at No. 1, 8-3.
