TOWSON, Md. - Just as it did in 2004-05 and 2006-07, Goucher opened its 2007-08 season today with a resounding victory over Waynesburg. The Gophers won five of the six singles matches in straight sets and swept the three doubles matches on the way to an 8-1 triumph over the visiting Yellow Jackets (0-3).

Two freshmen were victorious for the Gophers (1-0) in singles play: at No. 2, Joan Pulupa (Gaithersburg, MD/Richard Montgomery) was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Blakely Mall; at No. 6, Stella Day (Bellingham, WA/Sehome) downed Dana Davis 6-02, 6-2.
