Gophers Pin Convincing 8-1 Setback on KnightsAttarha, Grimm Improve to 3-1 in Singles Play with Wins

ASTON, Pa. - Goucher bounced back from its first loss of the season to pin a convincing 8-1 setback on Neumann (5-5) this afternoon.
The Gophers (3-1) led 2-1 at the conclusion of doubles play and then swept the six singles matches, all in straight sets. At No. 1 singles, Joan Pulupa (Gaithersburg, MD/Richard Montgomery) defeated Neumann's Katie Nell 6-0, 6-1; at No. 2, Tanya Cooley (Arlington, VA/Wakefield) polished off Allison Trout 6-3, 6-1.
Mouna Attarha (Piedmont, CA/Piedmont) and Christina Grimm (Greenwich, CT/New Hampton) both improved to 3-1 in singles play this season for the Gophers. Attarha, competing at No. 3, was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Michelle Steward of the Knights; Grimm posted a 6-0, 7-6 (4) victory over Lindsey Ravior at No. 4.
The Gophers (3-1) are 16-8 in singles play through the first four matches of the season.
Goucher picked up its two wins in doubles play at No. 1 from Pulupa and Cooley and at No. 3 from Chloe Scott-Giry (Amagansett, NY/Ross School) and Stella Day (Bellingham, WA/Sehome). Pulupa and Cooley defeated Trout and Rachel Coladonato, 8-3; Scott-Giry and Day turned back Ravior and Courtney Hartel, 8-2.
