Goucher Produces Pair of Doubles ChampionsAttarha Finishes as Runner-Up in Fourth Singles Flight

TOWSON, Md. - Goucher produced the champions of both doubles flights and the runner-up in one of the singles flights at this weekend's Goucher Invitational.
Christina Grimm (Greenwich, CT/New Hampton) and Chloe Scott-Giry (Amagansett, NY/The Ross School) went 3-0 on the way to placing first in the first doubles draw, starting with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Elizabeth Endy and Lauren Ertel from Moravian 6-2, 6-1. In the semifinals, they defeated Lauren Humphries and Barbara Hnizda from Villa Julie 6-0, 6-1; in the finals, they were 7-5, 6-1 winners over Heather Kozin and Heather Morgan from Gwynedd-Mercy.
The second doubles flight consisted of four teams playing a round robin, and by winning all three matches it played, the duo of Dana Clark (Oxford, MI/Sacred Heart) and Kim McPhail (Seattle, WA/Roosevelt) finished in first place. The match that ultimately determined the flight champions was Clark and McPhail's 6-2, 6-1 victory over Deanna Discepola and Monique Shetayh from Moravian.
Goucher's Mouna Attarha (Piedmont, CA/Piedmont) reached the finals in the fourth singles flight where she suffered a 6-1, 6-4 loss to Moravian's Rebecca Angstadt. To get to the finals, Attarha had to beat Alison Majewicz from Notre Dame (Md.) 6-1, 6-2 and Karen Hobaugh from Penn St.-Erie 7-6 (9-7), 2-6, 1-0 (10-6).
Joan Pulupa (Gaithersburg, MD/Richard Montgomery) went 2-1 to finish in third place in the second singles flight. She bowed to Meryl Krich from Notre Dame (Md.) 6-4, 7-5 in the semifinals, but then outlasted Moravian's Dyana Swan 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (15-13) in the match to settle third and fourth place.
Tanya Cooley (Arlington, VA/Wakefield) placed fifth in the third singles flight and Carly Heinz (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) wound up in seventh place in the first singles flight.
