Gophers Bow at Home to Greyhounds, 6-3

Bergman Stretches Winning Streak to Nine Matches

TOWSON, Md. – Freshman Mara Bergman (Summit, N.J./Summit) extended her winning streak in singles play to nine matches today, but Goucher prevailed in only one other singles match in losing to Moravian, 6-3.

By virute of their win, the Greyhounds moved into a tie with Juniata for first place in the Landmark Conference.

The Gophers (9-4, 1-2 Landmark) trailed 2-1 at the conclusion of doubles play, getting their only win at No. 2 from Joan Pulupa (Gaithersburg, Md./Richard Montgomery) and Chloe Scott-Giry (Amagansett, N.Y./The Ross School). They were partners in an 8-5 victory over Melissa Emery and Anna Meola.

The Greyhounds (8-5, 3-0 Landmark) tacked on four more wins in singles play. At No. 1, Jami Fein defeated Tanya Cooley (Arlington, Va./Wakefield) 6-0, 6-1.

Scott-Giry was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Alexandra Hay at No. 5 singles as she raised her 2008-09 record to 11-1. At No. 6, Bergman, who has not lost a singles match since the Goucher Invitational back in October, turned back Brianna Kavanagh 6-4, 6-4.
