Gophers Take Down Royals, Nail Down No. 3 Seed

Heinz Rallies to Prevail in Only Three-Set Singles Match
TOWSON, Md. – Goucher clinched being the No. 3 seed in the
upcoming Landmark Conference postseason tournament today by
knocking off Scranton, 7-2.
The Gophers (11-4, 3-2 Landmark) came out of doubles play with a 2-1 lead, getting one of its wins from Joan Pulupa (Gaithersburg, Md./Richard Montgomery) and Chloe Scott-Giry (Amagansett, N.Y./The Ross School)at No. 2 and the other from Mouna Attarha (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont) and Mara Bergman (Summit, N.J./Summit) at No. 3. Pulupa and Scott-Giry combined for an 8-4 triumph over Kelly Costello and Moira McGinn; Attarha and Bergman downed Caroline Curtin and Caitlin Ehly, 8-6.
Those same four Goucher players were also victorious in singles play, each one in straight sets. Attarha, stationed at No. 3 in the Gophers' singles line-up, earned a 6-3, 6-4 win over Curtin, Pulupa defeated Costello 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4, Scott-Giry pounded Beth Lappin 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 and Bergman improved her singles record this season to 15-3 by knocking off Ehly 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6.
The Royals (3-10, 2-3 Landmark) picked up their lone singles win at No. 1 where Deirdre Wylie turned back Tanya Cooley (Arlington, Va./Wakefield) 6-2, 6-4. The only three-set singles match was at No. 2 and Goucher's Carly Heinz (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) came back from being a set down to defeat Danielle Wylie 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (6).
