Four Wins in Singles Play Put Gophers Over Top
TOWSON, Md. – Goucher needed only to split the six singles matches to complete its victory over Hood this afternoon, but instead got wins from Mouna Attarha (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont) at No. 2, Joan Pulupa (Gaithersburg, Md./Richard Montgomery) at No. 3, Chloe Scott-Giry (Amagansett, N.Y./The Ross School) at No. 4 and Mara Bergman (Summit, N.J./Summit) at No. 5 to pin a 6-3 setback on the visiting Blazers.
Scott-Giry Improves to 5-1 at No. 4 Singles with 6-1, 6-3 Victory

School) at No. 4 and Mara Bergman (Summit,
N.J./Summit) at No. 5 to pin a 6-3 setback on the visiting
Blazers.
The Gophers (4-2) took a 2-1 lead into singles play thanks to wins by Tanya Cooley (Arlington, Va./Wakefield) and Scott-Giry at first doubles and Pulupa and Attarha at second doubles. The Cooley/Scott-Giry pairing defeated Jillian Elkaim and Larisa Buriak, 8-3; Pulupa and Attarha were 8-2 winners over Dani Hunt and Laura Saad.
In singles play, Attarha polished off Caitlin Erickson 6-2, 6-0, Pulupa downed Saad 7-6 (5), 6-2, Scott-Giry turned back Buriak 6-1, 6-3, and Bergman battled back to defeat Emily Schrodel 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8).
With her win, Scott-Giry improved to 5-1 in singles play this season.
Elkhaim registered a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Cooley at first singles. The Blazers (2-1) picked up their other point during singles play at No. 6 where Hunt fought off Andrea Stephaich (Pittsburgh, Pa./The Ellis School) 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8).
