POMONA, Calif. — Goucher looked like a team competing for
the first time since October when it resumed its 2009-10 season
today by bowing to Sewanee, 9-0.
The Gophers (6-2) were able to win only three games in the six singles matches. At No. 5, Vicki Casey (Orange, N.J./Chatham Hall) suffered a 6-0, 6-2 loss to Derry Robertson; at No. 6, Addie Maxwell (Southwest Harbor, Maine/Mount Desert Island) was beaten by Kathleen Catherall 6-1, 6-0.
Meaghan Lee (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill), who went 7-0 in singles play for Goucher during the fall, sustained her first loss of the season as she fell to Lindsay Wilburn at No. 4, 6-0, 6-0.
The most competitive of the three doubles matches, all won by the Tigers (6-4), was at No. 2 where Carly Heinz (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) and Mara Bergman (Summit, N.J./Summit) were taken down by Devin Tellatin and Julia Wood, 8-3.
