SELINSGROVE, Pa. — After dropping all three doubles matches,
Goucher came up with only two wins in singles play today and wound
up taking a 7-2 hit from Susquehanna in the first Landmark
Conference match of the 2009-10 season for both schools.
Joan Pulupa (Gaithersburg, Md./Richard Montgomery) secured one of Goucher's two points with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Susquehanna's Abby Hess at No. 2 singles. The Gophers (6-3, 0-1 Landmark) earned their other point at No. 5 singles where Vickey Casey (Orange, N.J./Chatham Hall) defeated Whitney Arcaro 6-0, 6-7 (7-9), 1-0 (10-4).
At No. 3 singles, Susquehanna's Kim Rogers came back from being down a set to finish off Mara Bergman (Summit, N.J./Summit) 2-6, 6-4, 6-2.
The Crusaders (5-2, 1-0 Landmark) won the remaining three singles matches in straight sets.
