ANNAPOLIS, Md. — A win at sixth singles by Addie Maxwell (Southwest Harbor, Maine/Mount Desert Island) provided Goucher with its lone point today in a 6-1 loss to the U.S. Naval Academy.
Maxwell defeated Carissa Guthrie 6-4, 6-1, to pick up her seventh singles win of the 2009-10 season.
The Midshipmen (10-3) won the remaining five singles matches, four of them in straight sets. At No. 1, Natalie Houle turned back Joan Pulupa (Gaithersburg, Md./Richard Montgomery) 6-1, 6-0; at No. 2, Lindsay Olsen came out victorious over Goucher's Carly Heinz (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) 6-1, 4-6, 6-1.
The Gophers (6-5) won only four games in doubles play.
