Lee, Casey Chalk Up Straight-Set Wins in Singles Play for Goucher

TOWSON, Md. — Meaghan Lee (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) and Vickey Casey (Orange, N.J./Chatham Hall) were victorious in singles play for Goucher, but head coach Sally Baum's Gophers needed to win a total of four singles matches today in order to avoid suffering a 6-3 loss to Juniata in Landmark Conference action.
The Eagles (8-7, 1-3 Landmark) emerged from the doubles competition with a 2-1 lead. The only win for Goucher in doubles was by Andrea Stephaich (Pittsburgh, Pa./The Ellis School) and Mara Bergman (Summit, N.J./Summit) at No. 3. They pinned an 8-2 setback on Hilary Walsh and Rachel Adams.
Lee picked up her eighth singles win of the season by knocking off Juniata's Stacie Beegle 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3. Casey was stationed at No. 4 in Goucher's singles lineup and she registered a 6-4, 6-1 triumph over Lauren Perow.
At No. 1 singles, Juniata's Katie Healy defeated Joan Pulupa (Gaithersburg, Md./Richard Montgomery) 6-3, 6-2.
The loss was the fifth straight for the Gophers (6-6, 0-3 Landmark).
