Gophers Pin Convincing 9-0 Setback on Chargers
LANCASTER, Pa. Even though Goucher came into today's match against Lancaster Bible with an unbeaten record, head coach Sally Baum's squad had yet to sweep the three doubles matches and then take all six singles matches from an opponent yet this season. In fact, the last two times out, the Gophers settled for 8-1 wins over Waynesburg and Hood because they could only prevail in two of the three doubles matches.

LANCASTER, Pa. – Even though Goucher came into today's match
against Lancaster Bible with an unbeaten record, head coach Sally
Baum's squad had yet to sweep the three doubles matches and then
take all six singles matches from an opponent yet this season. In
fact, the last two times out, the Gophers settled for 8-1 wins over
Waynesburg and Hood because they could only prevail in two of the
three doubles matches.
Today, however, after recording three victories in doubles play, the Gophers dominated the singles competition, dropping only 15 games in the six matches. The result was a convincing 9-0 triumph over the Chargers (0-8).
Carly Heinz (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) bumped her 2009-10 record in singles play to 5-0 by blitzing Lancaster Bible's Rokhsan Ghaziaskar 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1. Mara Bergman (Summit, N.J./Summit) and Meaghan Lee (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) also improved to 5-0 today: Bergman defeated Carolyn Kensinger 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 and Lee was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Michelle Ringler at No. 4.
At No. 2, Joan Pulupa (Gaithersburg, Md./Richard Montgomery) turned back Lancaster Bible's Brianna Funk 6-0, 6-1. Addie Maxwell (Southwest Harbor, Maine/Mount Desert Island) was in the Gophers' singles line-up at No. 5 where she pinned a 6-3, 6-1 setback on Kelsey Scott, and Alyssa Zick (Stewartstown, Pa./Kennard-Dale) was stationed at No. 6 and she took care of Kayla Scott 6-2, 6-2.
The Gophers (5-0) pulled off a sweep of the three doubles matches for only the second time this season: at No. 1, Pulupa and Heinz drubbed Ghaziaskar and Kelsey Scott, 8-1; at No. 2, Heinz and Maxwell topped Funk and Kensinger, 8-5; and at No. 3, Bergman and April Linder (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) registered an 8-4 victory over Ringler and Ashley Bell.
