TOWSON, Md. — Goucher concluded the fall portion of its
2009-10 schedule this afternoon with a convincing 9-0 victory over
McDaniel (0-2).
Carly Heinz (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) picked up her team-leading eighth win of the season in singles play by polishing off McDaniel's Brittany Starlings 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1. Right behind her, now with seven singles wins apiece are Mara Bergman (Summit, N.J./Summit) and Meaghan Lee (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill). Bergman, inserted in the line-up at No. 3, registered a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Jamie Latham; Lee raised her record to 7-0 by downing Kristina Shavirov 6-0, 6-0.
The Gophers (6-1) secured their remaining three points from the singles competition thanks to straight-set wins by Joan Pulupa (Gaithersburg, Md./Richard Montgomery) at No. 2, Addie Maxwell (Southwest Harbor, Maine/Mount Desert Island) at No. 5 and Vickey Casey (Orange, N.J./Chatham Hall) at No. 6.
At first doubles, Pulupa and Lee were 8-5 winners over Starlings and Sara Yost.
