Split of Singles Matches Leaves Gophers One Point Short

Maxwell Debuts at No. 1 Singles for Goucher, Picks Up 6-4, 6-1 Victory

STEVENSON, Md. — Goucher could come up with only three wins in singles play and suffered a 5-4 setback against Stevenson.

The Gophers (6-9) came out of the three doubles matches with only one point. At No. 1, Meaghan Lee (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) and Addie Maxwell (Southwest Harbor, Maine/Mount Desert Island) came out on top of Maura Bernstien and Julie Strong, 8-3.

Maxwell also picked up one of Goucher's three singles wins. Playing at No. 1 for the first time in her career, the sophomore polished off Bernstein 6-4, 6-1.

At No. 4, Alyssa Zick (Stewartstown, Pa./Kennard-Dale) recorded a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Strong, and the other point for the Gophers was picked up by Marie Claire Bryant (Nashville, Tenn./Hillsboro), who was a 6-4, 7-5 winner over Michelle Huber at No. 6.

The Mustangs (6-10) won the remaining three singles matches in straight sets.
