Pulupa, Lee Rally from 5-0 Deficit to Win at No. 1 Doubles
ANNVILLE, Pa. — Junior Mara Bergman (Summit, N.J./Summit) came back from being a set down to win at No. 3 singles, but Goucher dropped the remaining five singles matches in straight sets today in a 7-2 loss to Lebanon Valley.
Bergman rallied to defeat Tam Lobb 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8) and is off to a 2-0 start in singles play this season.
At No. 1 singles, Lebanon Valley's Shayna Heintzelman was a 7-5, 6-4 winner over senior Joan Pulupa (Gaithersburg, Md./Richard Montgomery); at No. 2, Lauren Fulmer topped Goucher's Meaghan Lee (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) 6-2, 6-0.
The Flying Dutchmen (1-1) took a 2-1 lead into singles play by prevailing in two of the three doubles matches. The Gophers (1-1) picked up their only point during the doubles competition when Pulupa and Lee won nine of the final 11 games to overcome a 5-0 deficit and earn a hard-fought 9-7 victory over Heintzelman and Christie Graf.
