Bergman, Lin Combine for Goucher's Only Win in Doubles Play

TOWSON, Md. — Goucher gained a split of the six singles matches, but that still left head coach Sally Baum's Gophers one point short of overtaking Scranton in this afternoon's Landmark Conference match. The Royals, who prevailed in two of the three doubles match, came out on top, 5-4.

Mara Bergman (Summit, N.J./Summit) and Ariel Lin (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) picked up Goucher's only point during the doubles competition with an 8-5 triumph over Stephanie Boccuzzi and Devon Cohen at No. 1.

Lin also accounted for one of the Gophers' three victories in singles play as she improved to 10-1 this season by knocking off Cohen 6-4, 6-4, but Bergman was handed a 6-2, 6-2 setback at No. 3 by Scranton's Elisha Connell.

The remaining two singles wins for the Gophers (5-3, 0-1 Landmark) were attained by Alexandra Walsh (Greens Farms, Conn./Staples) at No. 4 and Addie Maxwell (Southwest Harbor, Maine/Mount Desert Island) at No. 5. Walsh defeated Caitlin Ehly 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (2); Maxwell topped Nicole Mahaffey 6-2, 7-5.

The Royals (4-2, 1-0 Landmark) got a 6-2, 6-4 win out of Boccuzzi over Meaghan Lee (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) at No. 1 singles.
