Goucher Sweeps All Six Singles Matches for Third Time

WESTMINSTER, Md. — With another Landmark Conference match just two days away, Goucher desperately wanted to bring an end to its three-match losing streak by defeating McDaniel this afternoon.

Mission accomplished: The Gophers pinned a 9-0 setback on the Green Terror.

The Gophers (6-4), who came out on top in only two doubles matches during their recent skid, allowed the Green Terror (3-5) to win only seven games during today's double competition. At No. 1, Mara Bergman (Summit, N.J./Summit) and Ariel Lin (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) coasted past Carissa Grove and Brittany Starlings, 8-2. Meaghan Lee (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) and Alexandra Walsh (Greens Farms, Conn./Staples) turned back Kiersten Patron and Lauren Lewis, 8-4, at No. 2, and Vickey Casey (Orange, N.J./Chatham Hall) and Addie Maxwell (Southwest Harbor, Maine/Mount Desert Island) were victorious over Elise O'Meara and Laura Pollard, 8-1, at No. 3.

Lee took on Grove at No. 1 singles and prevailed 6-2, 6-0. At No. 2, Lin disposed of Starlings 6-3, 6-1; at No. 3, Bergman was a 6-4, 7-5 winner over Patron.

Walsh dropped only one game to Pollard at No. 4 as she recorded a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Maxwell was even more dominant as she blitzed Lewis 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5.

At No. 6, Casey polished off O'Meara 6-2, 6-2 as the Gophers swept all six singles matches for only the third time this season.
