Gophers' Postseason Chances Take Hit from Cardinals

Lin Takes Out Singles Opponent to Run Record to 17-1

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The odds of Goucher being one of the four teams that makes it into the Landmark Conference postseason tournament took a huge drop today when the Gophers were dealt a 6-3 setback by Catholic.

The Gophers (10-6, 1-3 Landmark) came out of doubles play with only the point they earned for the 8-2 victory at No. 1 by Mara Bergman (Summit, N.J./Summit) and Ariel Lin (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) over Andie Ingram and Isabel Tanco.

Then they couldn't make up any ground on the Cardinals (5-12, 2-2 Landmark) during the singles competition because they came out on top in only two of the six matches. Lin ran her record in singles play this season to 17-1 by taking out Ritmarie Holden 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2, but Goucher's only other win came at No. 6 where Vickey Casey (Orange, N.J./Chatham Hall) defeated Rosemary Montani 6-2, 6-3.

At No. 1, Margie Selinger knocked off Meaghan Lee (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) 6-0, 6-3. Bergman bowed to Elaina Sceusa 7-5, 6-4 at No. 3.

Addie Maxwell (Southwest Harbor, Maine/Mount Desert Island) had her eight-match winning streak snapped by Catholic's Isabel Tanco, who recorded a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 5.
