Freshman Improves to 18-1 in Singles Play with Pair of Wins
MADISON, N.J. — Ariel Lin (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central), a freshman who plays primarily at No. 2 in Goucher's singles lineup, has been selected Women's Tennis Player of the Week in the Landmark Conference for April 9-15.
The announcement was made this morning by a conference official.
Lin extended her winning streak in singles play to 11 matches with a pair of victories. She defeated Catholic's Ritmarie Holden 6-1, 6-1 during Goucher's 6-3 loss to the Cardinals on April 11 and Heather Waring from Juniata 6-1, 6-1 three days later when the Gophers were posting a 6-3 triumph over the Eagles.
By beating Waring, Lin improved to 18-1 in 2011-12, tying the school record for most singles wins in a season by a female tennis player. She now shares the record with Betsy Weingarten, who won all 18 of the singles matches she played back in 1986-87.
Lin has not lost a singles match since she suffered a 7-5, 6-7 (3), 1-0 (9) setback to Breanne Phillips from Misericordia back on Oct. 6.
