Lee Picks Up Career Singles Win No. 25 with 7-5, 6-1 Victory at No. 2
BRYN MAWR, Pa. — Goucher took hits at No. 1 and No. 6, but dropped only one other set in singles play this afternoon in earning a 7-2 victory over Bryn Mawr.
The Gophers (2-0) were in command at the conclusion of doubles competition, leading 3-0. At No. 1, the duo of junior Meaghan Lee (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) and freshman Lindsey Libaw (Los Angeles, Calif./New Roads) posted an 8-6 win over Anna and Eliza Perocchi. Freshmen Ariel Lin (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) and Kelsey Turner (Philadelphia, Pa./Germantown Friends) disposed of Vivien Chen and Jenny Vogel, 8-4, at No. 2, and freshman Alexandra Walsh (Greens Farms, Conn./Staples) and senior Vickey Casey (Orange, N.J./Chatham Hall) knocked off Rachel Genovese and Chloe Barron, 8-3, at No. 3.
Lee picked up the 25th singles win of her career by pinning a 7-5, 6-1 setback on E. Perocchi at No. 2. Lin and Walsh also prevailed in straight sets for the Gophers: Linn defeated Chen 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 and Walsh held off Vogel 6-3, 7-5 at No. 4.
The No. 5 singles match was decided by a super tiebreaker as Turner captured the first set and dropped the second, but came back to earn a 7-6 (5), 5-7, 1-0 (10-3) triumph over Melanie Shafer.
The Owls (0-1) picked up one of their two points at No. 1 singles where A. Perocchi turned back Libaw 6-1, 6-3. The other was the result of Catherine Austin's 6-1, 6-2 win over junior Alyssa Zick (Stewartstown, Pa./Kennard-Dale) at No. 6.
